Please note that in the 2009 MAKCi exercise new format (a bit different from previous exercises) we have sought to identify and recognize all those urban communities which can document their progress under the flag of KBD/Knowledge City initiatives. However, for Nomination purposes only, during the 2009 Round 1, you are required to decide under which category you are positioning your nominees from a size and scope perspective, as follows:
KNOWLEDGE METROPOLIS: These are largest to medium (over 3 million inhabitants= 100 largest cities in the world) urban conglomerates (national capital or major international economic or cultural center) often acting as international hubs for political, economic or cultural activities.
KNOWLEDGE CITY-REGIONS: These are medium (between 0.5 million to almost 3.5 million inhabitants = 900 next largest cities/towns worldwide) cities and towns acting as regional centers for political, economic or cultural activities
These are the two 2009 MAKCi Award categories that will seek to include and recognise all kinds of city nominations following knowledge-based schemes: from techno poles to digital cities; from small emerging urban city-regions to megalopolis in a journey to re-invent their identity in the twenty-first century.
By following this vision and as part of the Panel of Experts, you will be generating uncharted spaces highly relevant to the interests and focus of the KBD-KBUD communities.
